Insurance Claims
Insurance Claims
R S Jones Chartered Building Surveyors offer comprehensive insurance services in the event of a fire,
flood, or structural failure. We understand the devastating impact these risks can have on your
property.
Each claim is unique; at R S Jones Chartered Building Surveyors, we are well-equipped to assess the
extent of fire, flood, or structural failure and can assist in the initial evaluation of the claim with your
appointed insurer/loss adjuster. Once agreed, we can provide a Specification of Works and oversee
the restoration/rebuilding process required depending on the extent of failure or damage.

The process typically involves,

Initial assessment and documentation
After an unfortunate incident occurs such as fire, flood, or structural failure we will attend site to
carry out an initial assessment. This visit typically includes documenting the extent of damage, and
collecting evidence to support your claim. Careful and considered documentation at an early-stage is
essential to the success of any claim and project. We will use our experience in building pathology to
determine the extent of the damage and where necessary introduce specialist third-party
consultants such as structural engineers.
Collaboration with the insurer/loss adjuster
We will liaise between you as the insured party and the insurer or their appointed loss adjuster. This
process involves presenting documented evidence and explaining the extent of the claim and likely
remediation measures.
Cost estimation
We will use our knowledge of construction methods, costs, materials and labour to provide accurate
and realistic cost estimation to cover the extent of the loss. This is crucial to ensure that the insurance
settlement aligns with the actual cost of reinstating the property to its pre-loss condition.
We will negotiate with the insurer/loss adjuster on your behalf to ensure the settlement is in line
with our rebuilding cost estimate.
Rebuilding / project management
We are regularly retained to oversee the reinstatement of the property back to its pre-loss
condition. This involves all aspects of project management from obtaining building contractors
tenders producing specifications of work liaising with warranty providers and specialist third-party
consultants to ensure the smooth handover of the completed project.
